> Troubleshooting a PC Card/Card Bus Drive The PC Cards are also known as the PCMCIA cards. These are the cards that are used to provide a wide variety of Input Output services to the computers that are considered as the portable. It is also possible that the external drives also be connected to a PC Card. This is actually a 32 bit PC card. It also has another name called as the Card Bus Drive or the Card Bus Interface. Some of the problems that are mentioned below may even cause the PC card not to function properly. In some cases the PC cards may also be rendered as useless if the problems regarding them persist. The first major and the most common problem in the computer industry is that the PC card may not be fixed properly in its slot. If this is the case then fixing the card may result in normal resumption of the services. It may also happen that the PC card is having some of the dust particles over it. In that case it is advisable to clean the surface of the PC card and again fix it over the motherboard. If the PC card is not inserted properly then the PC card may not get detected. The PC card handlers are not present in the computer system. As it is known fact that any of the hardware device utilizes the software that is needed to run that hardware device appropriately. The software device driver program should be installed in the operating system. Some operating systems like the Microsoft’s Windows 98 do not even detect the PC card after the insertion. But the advanced versions like the Windows XP and all pop up a message saying that a new hardware device is detected. It may also be the possible reason that the drive that is attached to the PC card does not have the proper power supply. Like some of the PC cards have the external power supply to be connected to them or they are required to be turned on. The PC card slot contains most of the PC cards that are available. The multiple interfaces are also connected to the PC card slots. In such a situation the PC card slot is powered by a source that have an on or off switch. If in case the PC card is not inserted properly in the PC card slot then the solution is to slightly push the card back in to the slot. In the taskbar tray a small icon appears at the side of the clock which says that the new hardware device is installed and can be used. The other case may be that if the PC card is inserted in the PC slot but still it is not detected then in such a situation there may some of the problems related to the PC card. The Windows Operating System is unable to locate the device drivers for that specific hardware device. It is also possible that the software that is used by the Windows operating system is not loaded. In such a situation it may required that the computer system is restarted. Also it is better to open the device manager configuration utility in the operating system and check the details of the PC card and the corresponding device driver software that is installed. The controller should be verified if it is working properly or not. The controllers should be appropriately configured so that the device is working properly. |
