> Storage Nodes and Remote Devices The storage node can be defined as the node in which the machine that is used to connect to the backup server and other devices that are used in the operations related to the archival operations and the backup’s backup operations or also the operations that are known as the HSM. The devices that are usually used to attach to the storage nodes are called as the remote devices. Special backup software is run by the storage node that is used to control the devices. The data that is stored over the storage media in any device that is considered as the remote is tracked in the data base of the media. Even the client file that has an online index over the server called as the backup server. The concept is explained with example. The nodes or more specifically called as the storage nodes that are added to the configured back up server will increase the performance of the server. This will happen in the case in which there is more flexibility for the network design. It will also happen in the case where in there is a centralize control over management of the data activities. It is also possible to control most of the operations over the devices that are considered as the remote or the local devices like for example the autochangers. The silos are also an example for these devices in discussion. They are usually from the Backup administration program that is run over the server. In case of the operations of the autochanger that is remote like the example of the reset. Here the user must use the command that is the ‘nsrjb’ or the program called as the ‘jb_config’over the machine storage node. In the case of the operations of the data transfer; the backup server utilizes the devices that are remote in the way which is similar to the usage of the devices that are considered as the local. There is also a storage node affinity in existence. Let us consider in detail the configuration of the storage of the storage node and the configuration of the remote device. In the configuration of the storage node the first thing is to create a storage node. Next; the installation of the binaries of the storage node from the Backup software distribution machine of the storage node is done. It is then nest step that is to define devices of the storage node. The hostname of the storage node is then added automatically to the list of the administrator over the resource of the server. This is done when the user adds the device called as the standalone remote
device. In case of an autochanger or the silo, the definition of the program
called as the ‘jb_config’ is manually added to the storage
node's hostname in the list of the administrator. For the configuration
of the device called as the remote storage the user needs to configure
the remote standalone devices that are in the session of the administration
where in the controlling of the backup server is done. In the same way
as the configuration of a device that is standalone is connected to the
backup server. This can be also done in two ways. There is also a link
in between the client resource and the storage node’s list that
is called as the storage node affinity. |
