> Storage Devices Types When we talk about the storage devices; there are many types and different kinds of storage devices are available. The classification may be different for the different types of the storage devices. Like in one terminology the storage devices may be of the kind of volatile or non volatile. This means that the storage devices come in two different types. The first one that is discussed is the primary memory which is a type of volatile memory device. The memory is volatile in the case that when the power is switched off the data contents in the memory gets erased and the data is stored in the primary memory only until the power is on. This is the type of volatile memory. The examples of this may include the RAM’s etc. The RAM
is also available in different types. Like the one variant for the RAM
is the NV RAM. The NV stands for the Non Volatile memory. This type of
the memory is discussed in the following section. The data stored over the non volatile memory can be erasable or even
non erasable depending upon the type of the storage devices such as the
optical or the magnetic media. The non volatile memory offers huge storage
capacity and is not much expensive either in the comparison along side
with the volatile memory. The RAM is usually called as the volatile memory,
since the contents are erased when the power goes off. But there are some
types of the RAM that are available; which are non volatile in nature.
Such RAM is called as the non volatile RAM. The non volatile RAM stores
the contents for at least some amount of time after the power failure.
The other devices such as the optical storage media include the CD or the DVD drive. They are the drives that are optical in nature. The different types of the storage devices are the floppy disk drives, the hard disk drives, the CD drives, the DVD disk drives and the USB memory devices, the flash memory devices etc. The flash memory is expensive but the device is handy and portable for the data transfer. For most of the data transfer reason the data storage device that is used is the floppy disk drive. But after the availability of the flash memory device the floppies are decreased in use. The hard disk drives and the CD drives are available in both the forms of internal and the external devices. |
