|Storage Media Choice|
The first thing to be considered while choosing a storage device is that the configuration of the personal computer for which the storage device is being used should be studied in detail. Only then an appropriate choice can be made to select the storage media. The technology in the present generation is changing its speed at an amazing rate. The thing is that what the price is today for a specific piece of media will not be there after a few days. For the same price as that of today’s you will get a better configured hardware device. The technology is moving so fast that the terminology is straight; specifically in the case of the storage devices. The thing is that which of the storage devices need to be considered for your computer. This can be fairly judged only if the user has the clear idea of all the available storage devices. There are several factors which qualify the storage media for the specific usage. They are listed below:
The point that is to be considered is the price tag. The price is major thing that is to be kept in mind before choosing a storage media. The media that is blank ranges very widely from cheap to a highly expensive storage device. The best thing is to keep the budget in mind. Also there should be no compromise between the reliability and the reliability of the storage media. Also the portability of the storage media is important in cases of physical data transfer.
The size of the storage media is also of importance. The size is considered in terms of the physical dimensions and also that of the memory capacity. It should be easier to transfer the data easily. As the size decreases physically the rate or the price tag shoots up. Similarly the rate is much higher in case of the size in terms of the capacity of the storage media.
The other issues that should be kept in mind are the compatibility issue. The time and money; both could be saved if the appropriate device is chosen for the particular computer. For example the compatibility of the different types of memory can happen in the case in which an MP3 player uses a flash memory and also the digital camera flash memory. The swap flash memory can be used in this case. It is always better for you to use a portable storage device which uses the same media as that of your other storage devices. The next factor that is to be considered while choosing the storage media is the ease with which it can be used.
The disks like the CD’s and the DVD’s are easier to use. They even give the user the fast and a super easy access load the particular tracks or the media files. Even it is possible to jump up to the next or a middle file or track. But in the case of the tape storage device the case is not so. For each forward or rewind; the sequential access of the tape needs to be taken place. This method takes a lot of time and effort to for the same thing that can be done with ease in the other storage device. The other things or the features of the storage media to be kept in mind are the durability, removable media, and rewritable media, portable – like the minidisks. The reliability and the integrity of the data when stored over the storage media is also as much important as that of the other features that must be included.
