> Determining Actual Drive Failure Has Occurred
The hard disk drives are considered as a reliable form of the storage media. But apart from some of the simple problems the hard disk drives encounter there are also some problems that can be called as the major failure of the hard disk drives. The actual drive failure has some major problems like; there may be the complete failure of the hard ware. The hard ware that is manufactured may also have some defects in it. It is also possible that the hardware device developed some defects due to the physical damage like falling or manhandling of the device. The failure may also be due to the reason that hard disk drive has developed bad sectors. In any case if the major problems become apparent then the best thing is to update the back up or the archival of the data. After that if the problem continues to hamper the operations of the user then drive should be replaced itself. If the hard disk drive is under the manufacturers warranty and there a manufacturing defect in it; then the best reason is to back up the data or the information and replace it with the manufacturer. The bad sectors that are developed during the warranty of the product are also called as the manufacturing defect. If it so happens that the hard disk drive is not powering itself then it is better to shut down the system and examine whether the hard disk has vibration or there is any noise in the hard disk drive. If so then the possible action that can be taken is to return it to the manufacturer if it is under the warranty. This can be considered as the worst case where in the hard disk drive is considered as dead. It may also be possible that the computer system may also not start up if the hard disk drive is not connected. In case if the other devices that are connected to the same port work well then it is sure that there is a problem with the hard disk drive only. Usually, to any computer system case or the cabinet there is a LED that is connected to the motherboard. The connection to the mother board is done to provide the information of how the hard disk drive is behaving while the user is accessing the system. When the computer is boot up, then the power LED glows up saying that the computer is powered with the supply. Usually on any of the computer case there are three LED’s that are present – one among them is to show if the computer is powered on, the other is to show if the computer hard disk drive is on and the other is probably for the reset or turbo button. Like the CD drive or the DVD drives which are visible in the case of the computer or the cabinet; there is glowing light if the drive is in use. Similarly for the external hard disk drive there also exist a glowing light which indicates whether the drive is working or not. But in the internal hard disk drives which are located inside the computer case the LED is provided as the front of the computer cabinet case only. Hence it is possible to analyze if the hard disk drive is working or not by observing the glow of the LED. |
